Prop Fiction
- Additional Information -

The pursuit of sculpture is a continuing inquiry into the definition of objects, their aesthetic value, and their purpose. 20th century sculpture includes the mundane everyday object in its discussion of the visual experience of  things. When removed from it's utilitarian context, an object inevitably changes in meaning, and attributes often overseen come to light. The artists here all play with the notion of this transformation, by manipulating scale or change of materials. From a wooden washing machine to ceramic shoes to a kit for building a life size model Mercedes-Benz, these artists take the functionality and stretch it, twist it or eradicate it altogether, allowing the viewer to question their own process of perception.

Prop Fiction was made possible in part by funding from The Netherland-America Foundation and Cultural Services of the French Embassy.  For more information call 212-924-4212 or fax 212-645-4764.
