Somewhere Better Than This Place:
- Additional Information -
In an ambitious show featuring 66 newly-commissioned and extant works inhabits five floors of the Zaha Hadid-designed Center, Somewhere Better Than This Place: Alternative Social Experience in the Spaces of Contemporary Art will explore the relationships between people, their environments, and art, and comment on the unique role of the contemporary art museum as a place where artists express alternative perspectives on life and society. The largest exhibition presented in the Center's 64-year history, Somewhere Better Than This Place will maximize the dynamics inherent in Zaha Hadid's design that encourage interaction between the Center's audiences, works of art, and the building itself.
Somewhere Better Than This Place represents the diverse backgrounds, perspectives and sensibilities of leading U.S. and international artists working in a range of media-including installation, film, photography, video, audio and live performance. Such recognized artists as Francis Alÿs, Vanessa Beecroft, Janet Cardiff, Nikki Lee and Yinka Shonibare, Jennifer Zackin will be featured alongside established and emerging artists from the Americas, Africa, Asia and Europe. All the works in the exhibition offer interactive, participatory experiences in the museum space, or have been generated out of performance activities staged in the outside world.
